Spring Fling Spotlight: Confidence, Community & Canvas Hats at Lauriebelles

​There’s something contagious about confidence — and when you step into Lauriebelles, you feel it.

What began as a side hustle in a basement has grown into a full-fledged fashion destination in Downtown Sioux Falls. Owner Laurie Karlson launched Lauriebelles in 2013 after a career in teaching, seeking a more flexible path while raising her young kids.

Just a year later, she was in her first storefront, and things haven’t slowed down since.

Now nearly 12 years in, Lauriebelles has become known for its curated selection of clothing, accessories, and shoes — but also for something harder to define: helping women feel like themselves again. Laurie puts it best: “Women tend to put themselves last and can get lost in the hustle and bustle of life — especially if they're moms! We love to help them find or boost their confidence through outfits that make them feel amazing.”

Their store delivers on that promise, with a friendly team that takes the guesswork out of putting outfits together and makes shopping easy, fun, and pressure-free.

And during Spring Fling (April 12–19), Lauriebelles is pulling out all the stops.

One of the biggest hits this season is their BYOH (Build Your Own Hat) Bar, where customers can choose from a variety of patches to create custom-designed canvas trucker hats. Staff will press the patches on-site for a personalized, on-trend accessory you won’t find anywhere else.

They’re also hosting a Spring Fling Event on Thursday, April 17 from 4–7 p.m., with 25% off storewide, snacks, refreshments, and free spring totes filled with goodies for the first 15 shoppers who make a purchase. It’s a great excuse to celebrate the season and refresh your wardrobe with some spring arrivals.

When she’s not running Lauriebelles, Laurie’s ideal downtown day involves walking, shopping, grabbing drinks and apps, and ending the evening with a show at the Pavilion or a film at the State Theater. Some of her favorite local spots include Oshima Sushi, Josiah’s, Carpenter Bar, Highball, Crave, Simply Perfect — and yes, she included Lauriebelles too (rightfully so).

Laurie says the best part of Spring Fling is when Downtown retailers team up for events like this. “DTSF is wonderful all days, but it is so fun when retailers come together,” she says. “Plus, spring time is always a great time to get out and shop.”
