Spring Fling Spotlight: The Vision Behind Serendipity Studio Gallery

​There’s something electric about walking into a brand-new creative space — especially when the person who opened it is both the owner and an artist. That’s the story behind Serendipity Studio Gallery, one of Downtown Sioux Falls’ newest additions, founded by photographer Jason Pfitzer.

Jason opened the gallery in November 2023 with a dual purpose: to share his own photographic work and to give other artists a place to showcase theirs. From the start, the mission has been about more than just walls and frames — it’s about creating a platform for fresh voices and emerging talent, and giving the community a place to experience art that feels personal, unexpected, and alive.

Right now, the gallery is home to a new exhibition titled “The Living Canvas,” a collection that reflects the gallery’s evolving nature and commitment to keeping things fresh. Whether you’re a longtime art lover or just starting to explore local culture, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and look closer.

When asked what drives him, Jason keeps it simple: like many small business owners, he has a dream. “We enjoy sharing the artwork,” he says, “and meeting the customers who appreciate the work.” There’s a genuine passion in that — not just for art, but for the people who come through the door and connect with it.

Though the gallery is still young, it’s already a vibrant piece of the Downtown fabric. Jason describes his ideal downtown day as “busy with a sense of electricity” — and it’s clear he’s working to contribute to that energy. His own go-to spots include Zandbroz, Lucky’s, Phillips Avenue Diner, and Full Circle Book Co-op — a solid mix of creative, classic, and community-driven.

As part of Spring Fling (April 12–19), Serendipity Studio Gallery will be welcoming new visitors into the space and sharing its latest exhibit. There aren’t any formal promotions — just an open door, compelling art, and a chance to support something new and meaningful in the heart of Downtown.
