The Sioux Falls Skedaddle is the place to be this spring. Not only is our event first time runner friendly, we will also have a blazing fast elite field of runners. 605 Running Company and the Sioux Falls Skedaddle are proud to welcome Tara McDonald to the 2022 Sioux Falls Skedaddle Half Marathon!
Tara McDonald is joining the Sioux Falls Skedaddle for the second year in a row. Last year she battled through the elements and finished with a strong third place showing. While in college, she won Nationals in the 800 meter. To this day, you'll still find her putting up impressive workouts on the track. But don't let that fool you, she has built an impressive resume on the roads as well - with the full intention of continuing to improve her personal best times. Tara has been a great friend of 605 Running Company, so we are very thankful for the opportunity to have her take to the streets with the rest of our amazing community here in Sioux Falls. The Sioux Falls Skedaddle is the place to be this spring. Not only is our event first time runner friendly, we will also have a blazing fast elite field of runners. 605 Running Company and the Sioux Falls Skedaddle are proud to welcome Megan Sauer to the 2022 Sioux Falls Skedaddle Half Marathon!
Megan joins us from the town of Lismore, Minnesota. After competing collegiately for Bethany Lutheran College, she transitioned to racing on the roads. With a handful of marathons on her resume, she finished 2nd at the Pandamit Marathon in Chesterton, Indiana. She credits her success on the road to a variety of workouts, but especially the 1,000 meter repeat. Having company from her dog and refueling with pizza are just added bonuses! On Megan's occasional visit to Sioux Falls, she is sure to spend some time on the Greenway Trail System or checking out the Downtown Sculpture Walk. The sounds of the open space boom above you, muted like a faraway thunderstorm just past the horizon. Your entire body moving as one, every muscle activated, powering you through the resistant water. Your thoughts are yours alone as the water streams past you. Swimming, like running, is a time that only you can create. It’s a time to work those well-placed muscles and take time away from the flurry of daily life. It’s a time for your mind to drift, to solve problems, and to create new ones. But swimming can be beneficial where running falls short. The no-impact of swimming can reduce common running injuries. Not only can swimming enhance recovery from injuries, swimming can actually make a runner faster. With water’s ability to counteract gravity, any strain on muscles and ligaments is diminished. The alternate movement patterns used in swimming will give some of those neglected muscles some love while still practicing active recovery. The extra 800% density of water compared to air will strengthen your legs and provide the driving power that’ll get you to your next PR. If you’re looking for a place to start, keep in mind everyone starts at a different ability level so do as much as you're comfortable with. The easiest way to start is swimming steady lengths for an allotted time period. The increase in distance and time will soon follow as you get stronger and more confident in the water. And for those of you out there who aren’t as keen about swimming, pool running could be your solution. It will give you a cardio workout and give your joints a break from the continuous pounding of running. With water’s thicker density and increased resistance, it will give you ample time to focus on your form as you push through in slow motion. This will allow you to train your body to run more efficiently outside the water.
