If you haven't been into the store over the past week, you might not be familiar with the Honey Stinger brand. Honey Stinger is based out of Steamboat Spring, CO and creates honey-based nutritional products. I would compare their selection to Clif Bar or Gu, with the exception that many of their products are organic and made out of honey. In 1954, Ralph and Luella Gamber wanted to develop an alternative to the candy bars that were available at the time. Since Ralph was a beekeeper, honey was the obvious choice. However, in 1954 the market was not quite ready for such a product. In 2002, the company and the product were both re-established. At 605 Running Company, we carry a wide selection of Honey Stinger, including the energy gels, organic energy chews, protein bars, and my personal favorite, the organic waffles. The gels and energy chews would primarily be used either pre-workout or during to provide that little zip of honey-based energy into your system, whereas the protein bars would best be used post-workout. As far as the organic waffles go, I find it tough to find a time when NOT to eat them. They are delicious and great for breakfast, post-run or just a snack. We carry a wide variety of flavors, so try them all! Little known fun-fact: the Honey Bear that we all know and love was brainstormed by Ralph and Luella in 1957 (along with Woodrow and Rita Miller) as unique packaging. Happy Running! Logan Watley
