For the first time in almost 2 years, we are welcoming a new face to the 605 family. Please welcome On Cloud! We just received On Cloud in June and we are excited to try it out and see if you guys like it. Before we try it out, lets learn a little bit about On Cloud first. History ON is a Swiss company. They were born in the Swiss Alps with one goal in mind: to revolutionize the sensation of running. ON had an idea to have soft-landings followed by explosive take-offs. Oliver Bernhard, a retired professional duathlon champ and Ironman winner, and two of his friends, David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, decided that they wanted to turn that dream into a reality. ON first started making prototypes in January of 2010. In just one month, ON had won the ISPO BrandNew Award with their prototypes. Then in July of that same year they created their first shoe to be sold in stores. In 2013, ON opened one of their Headquarters in the US (Portland, OR) and also have another one in Asia. In just eight years of being a company, ON has been sold in over 3,500 specialty running stores (now including 605 Running Co.) in over 50 different countries. ON has been an incredibly fast growing company and they are showing no signs of fatigue and continue to grow. Unique Tech On Cloud has kept their shoes pretty simple for the most part. Instead of having so many different features that set them apart from other shoe brands, they stick with two main technologies. CloudTecⓇ - When you see an On Cloud shoe, you will see that midsole of the shoe has a lot of holes in it. Almost as if a gopher has made its home in the shoe. Instead of using a full foam midsole, On Cloud uses what they call Cloud pods as the midsole. What these cloud pods do is once your foot hits the ground they compress, in both vertical and horizontal directions. Now, when those cloud pods compress they are distributing the forces throughout your whole foot, creating a soft-landing. Greg uses a nice analogy here. Think of those cloud pods as individual garden hoses. When you step on the garden hose it compresses, and when you start to move off the hose it shoots back up. The same thing is happening in this shoes you step down and compress the pods. Then when you push off the pods expand, shooting you forward therefore giving you the explosive take-off. Speedboard- This is a very flexible plate in the midsole. It supports the natural rolling motion of the foot. Instead of being stiff and locking your foot in the same position, it allows you to flex and move your foot naturally how we were supposed to. 605 Best Seller As this is a new brand to us, we do not have a sure store favorite yet. With that being said, we do have three different models: Cloudswift, Cloudflyer, and Cloudflow. We would love for you to come on down to the store and try them out and let us know what you think. We will even be having an On Cloud demo run this Wednesday at the shop at 6:05pm so you can try these new shoes out!
