Earth Day is during Skedaddle week on April 22nd, 2022. 605 Running Company is helping to keep used shoes out of landfills. Over the years we have donated thousands of pounds of used shoes to multiple organizations. Recently, we connected with GotSneakers, an organization that helps raise funds through sneaker donations. This year at the 60.5 Move Expo and at the Sioux Falls Skedaddle Half Marathon finish line we will be taking used sneaker donations to raise money for the Chase for a Cure. Did You Know? Most people throw away their used sneakers every 125-200 days without ever thinking about recycling. Since sneakers are manufactured with materials that are not biodegradable, they remain in landfills or are incinerated, which leads to toxic chemicals in our air and soil. The process of manufacturing sneakers produces large amounts of CO2 which contributes to the serious effects of climate change and global warming. Recycling and reusing sneakers keeps sneakers out of landfills, reduces the need for manufacturing new shoes and sneakers, and supports a growing circular economy. Make plans to visit us at the 60.5 Move Expo at the Washington Pavilion on April 23rd, from 10am - 4pm. The expo is free and open to the public. We will have a full line-up of on-stage entertainment, arts and crafts, great shopping, food vendors and our friends from GotSneakers. Be sure to bring your used shoes to donate. Each donation directly supports the Bryan Family and their goal to raise $25,000 in the Chase for a Cure | Cure Rare Disease.
